Review
of "Bodybuilding Revealed"
eBook By Will Brink
If you're looking
for an excellent "how to" guide to bodybuilding
(and training in general), Will Brink's book "Bodybuilding
Revealed" is a GREAT place to start.
I've known Will for
a number of years - you may be familiar with his
articles in a variety of popular magazines. I even
post regularly as a guest to his blog.
When it comes to nutrition
and supplementation, there are very people as knowledgeable
as Will Brink. I trust his nutrition and supplement
knowledge implicitly...he really knows his stuff.

|
Which is why I'm going to
continue with my bad habit of totally giving away the
outcome of this review within the first few paragraphs...
This
book is a classic that belongs in every trainer's library...beginner,
intermediate or advanced, you're going to learn a LOT.
As the title says, this
book is all about bodybuilding, specifically muscle building.
Being a nutrition scientist at heart, Will naturally begins
his book with a several very detailed sections on nutrition.
You'll find ALL the basics
here...macronutrients (protein, carbs and fats), Glycemic
Index, good carb sources, good fat sources, optimal protein
intake, Will's top 10 bodybuilding foods, vegetarianism
vs. meat-eating and how it relates to muscle growth.
Once you've established
your basic nutritional knowledge, Will goes directly into
the "HOW" of eating for muscle growth. This
is where you're REALLY going to learn a lot. If you've
never delved into nutrition and how it affects your body,
this section alone is worth the price of the book.
You'll going to learn exactly
how to plan your eating (using the information you got
from the first section) to maximize your results. It's
all scientifically done - no guesswork here. Will puts
years of study and experience into action for you here.
If you've always wondered
how to properly put together meals for growth, you're
going to LOVE this section.
Now comes the "fun"
part of nutrition...organizing your kitchen, your shopping
list and food preparation. Will has even included a chapter
on how to manage your eating when you're not at home -
invaluable stuff if you have occasions when you're not
fully in control of your meals.
Supplements
are next and this section is going to really open your
eyes.
No hype here...no marketing
or sales pitches or fake bodybuilder endorsements. This
is the real deal and it's all based on science, NOT just
somebody saying they gained 20 lbs in a week with X supplement.
You're going to get the
real deal about...
- Amino Acids (e.g. BCAA's,
Glutamine, Taurine, Tyrosine, L-Arginine, Beta Alanine)
- Creatine Monohydrate,
DHEA, Carnitine, Ribose, Phosphatidylserine, Arachidonic
Acid
- Protein powders like
whey, casein, egg, soy, etc.
- Calcium, Vitamin C, ZMA,
Chromium
- Anti-Estrogens like Chrysin
and 6-OXO
- Herbal testosterone boosters
like Tribulus, Horny Goat Week (seriously, that's what
it's called), Fenugreek
- Ecdystreone, Beta-sitosterol
- Ginseng, cordyceps
- Caffeine, Cissus quadrangularis,
CLA, GH supplements, MCT's, Saw Palmetto, Myostatin
inhibitors
- Prohormones and designer
steroids
Will gives you a "supplement
scoreboard" to rate new supplements, but here's the
best part...any NEW supplements that come out get reviewed
and posted on the Bodybuilding Revealed Form.
I have to say, one of the
biggest benefits of the Bodybuilding Revealed book is
the forum. Not only do you get those updates, you can
also communicate with Will directly, asking him nutrition,
supplementation and training questions. He has an excellent
network of support people as well.
The next section deals
with training.
In the book itself, Will
has included a good deal of information from Charles Poliquin.
This is good, solid basic training info....whole body
workouts, split training, lifting basics and general training
tips as well as exercise instruction.
With the exercise instruction,
the book contains links to online videos so you can see
exactly how each exercise is performed. Proper form is
absolutely critical if you're going to lift safely and
effectively. This is good info.
Finally, the last section
is cardio training. Here, Will answers the big question
"does cardio help or hinder muscle growth"...the
answer might surprise you!
Overall, Will's done a nice
job of explaining the plusses and minuses of cardio in
relation to muscle growth, as well as how to best perform
cardio (interval training and Tabata protocols).
There are some nice bonuses
included in the appendix of the book - sample training
programs, 21 muscle building principles from Charles Poliquin,
individualization of mass-gaining programs, Brinks top
100 mass-gaining foods.
CONCLUSION:
This book is a "must
have" for pretty much anybody who wants to get more
out of their training, especially if proper nutrition
is something you've never really dug into.
This book is very strong
on nutrition and supplements (Will's strength as a "nutrition
guy" comes to the forefront here) and the training
information is very good as well.
Overall, definitely worth
the very reasonable price.
